Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has extended an offer to Donald Trump to engage in a debate at the Libertarian Party convention scheduled for later this month. Both Kennedy and Trump are set to speak at the event, which has invited presidential candidates from various parties to discuss themes related to freedom and limited government. President Joe Biden has declined the invitation.
In a post on the X platform, Kennedy criticized Trump’s presidential tenure, particularly highlighting issues such as the handling of COVID-19, economic management, and his failure to eliminate corruption within the government. Kennedy used polling data to challenge Trump, suggesting that both are viable contenders against each other and against President Biden, based on various polls including those by Zogby, CNN, and Quinnipiac, which show Kennedy above the 15% debate threshold.
Dear President Trump,
I’m grateful to you for calling attention to the rigged polling methodologies that biased DNC-influenced media have used against you. We have this concern too, and I’m happy to show you the deceptive methodologies used by DNC-allied pollsters who pretend…

Kennedy’s critique extended to Trump’s fiscal policies, accusing him of significantly increasing the deficit, imposing business shutdowns during the pandemic, and appointing undesirable figures into key positions, referring to them as “swamp creatures.” He claimed that these actions have alienated some of Trump’s base, driving them to support Kennedy instead.
The debate proposition aims to provide a platform for both candidates to publicly defend their records and visions for America’s future. Kennedy mentioned that the Libertarian convention would be the ideal neutral ground for this debate, indicating that the event organizers are supportive of using their speaking slots for this purpose.
As of now, Trump has not publicly responded to Kennedy’s debate challenge. In the past, Trump has expressed reluctance to engage with Kennedy, whom he has labeled a “radical left lunatic,” positioning him further left than any current Democratic candidate, including Green Party’s Jill Stein and independent Cornel West.
The proposed debate, if accepted, could offer a significant opportunity for both candidates to address the American electorate directly, clarifying their positions on crucial issues while potentially swaying undecided voters in what appears to be an increasingly complex presidential race.
