Dixon County Nebraska K-9 Josie Passes Unexpectedly

Apr 7, 2021 | ,

(KVHT) – A long-time northeast Nebraska deputy has passed away unexpectedly. Officials with the Dixon County Sheriff’s Office say K-9 officer Josie died on April 3rd. Josie was seven years old and worked for Dixon County from 2015 through 2021. A press release from the sheriff’s office honored Josie calling her a “gentle soul” beneath her seemingly harsh exterior. It went on to say that the K-9 loved her job and wanted nothing more than love, affection, and her reward toy ball.  According to the sheriff’s office, Josie was always ready to work at a moment’s notice right beside her handler Deputy Rich Lamprecht. Whether it was a drug search or a demonstration, she illustrated how important a K-9’s work is, not only for the safety and well-being of the officers, but also for the education of the community. As part of a press release, the sheriff’s office sent out a thank you to Dr. Melissa Heithold and her staff at Wayne Vet Clinic for all of the care they gave Josie during her ACL injury and as she passed over the weekend. The sheriff’’s office also wanted to thank everyone who sent donations supporting Josie over the years.
