Schumer calling for investigation into fatal helicopter crash in Mendon
MENDON, N.Y. — Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is calling for a federal investigation after last month’s helicopter crash, which killed three National Guardsmen.
Schumer cites the Mendon crash, and another crash weeks later in Idaho, saying it warrants an investigation into the safety of Army and Air National Guard Vertical Lift Programs.
He’s also calling for an audit by the US Government Accountability Office Comptroller.
Schumer noted a December 2020 report from the National Commission on Military Aviation Safety, which outlined several budgetary and administrative issues that resulted in lives lost, 186 aircraft destroyed, and more than $11 billion from taxpayers.
