Names Released Of Those Involved In Union County Fatal Crash

(KVHT) – Authorities have now identified the victim of a fatal two-vehicle accident that happened Friday night south of Elk Point, South Dakota. According to South Dakota officials, 57-year-old Mark Erickson, of Gayville was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say Erickson was traveling southbound when he lost control of his vehicle due to icy road conditions. His vehicle went across the median and into northbound traffic where it collided with a 2016 GMC Yukon. A passenger in Erickson’s car, 58-year old Glynis Erickson also of Gayville, suffered serious non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a Vermillion hospital. The driver of the Yukon was 49-year old Eric Pollitt of Canton, Illinois. Pollitt suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a Sioux City hospital. The northbound section of Interstate 29 was closed for three hours following the accident. South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
