Yankton Posts Double-Digit Increase In Positive COVID-19 Cases
(KVHT) – Twenty new positive cases of COVID-19 were reported in Yankton County on Sunday. Those new cases represent a one-day high and marked the fifth consecutive day Yankton County has recorded double-digit increases in positive tests. In the state, South Dakota health officials reported 658 new infections Sunday, along with eight new deaths. Locally, double-figure increases were also recorded in Bon Homme, Turner, and Union counties. On Saturday, the University of South Dakota online portal reported 53 active cases, which included 45 students and 8 staff. That is up three from Friday. University officials report 182 people in quarantine, including 22 on campus.
South Dakota health officials say with those eight most recent COVID-19 related deaths, the state has reached the 100 mark in deaths due to complications from the Coronavirus in October. The death toll stands at 323. The COVID Tracking Project reports there were about 978 new cases per 100,000 people in South Dakota over the past two weeks. That ranks second in the country behind North Dakota for new cases per capita. Over the past two weeks, the rolling average number of daily new cases in South Dakota has increased by 63.5%.
