Black Lives Matter protest in Geneva Sunday a peaceful one
The protest over the treatment of Black people in America remained peaceful last night in Geneva.
Though the City of Geneva had earlier urged residents to stay home Sunday night, over reports of planned looting, protestors again rallied in front of the police station, holding signs and lying face down in protest of the death of George Floyd. Floyd died as he was being taken into police custody last week by a Minneapolis police officer who has since been charged with his murder.
They also advised business owners to make sure their all their property was secured and locked.
City leaders said in a statement Sunday, “We understand the fear and anger our community members are experiencing because of these senseless acts. We also understand the need to take action, and we are fully in support of peaceful protests and will work with organizers to safely come together.”
Another protest is set for this afternoon.
