New facility to be built in Centralia to bring over 100 family-wage jobs
A new facility planned for the Port of Centralia will bring more than 100 family wage jobs to the area. Port of Centralia Commissioner Julie Schaffley was a guest on KELA’s Let’s Talk About program on Friday. She said the Port on Thursday finalized the contract to construct a logistics center for Walmart at the Port’s Center Park 2. Schaffley said there will about 120 new jobs starting at $80,000 a year with benefits. The workers will be based out of Centralia and will work 5 days on and 2 off, starting and ending in Centralia. Requirements for the jobs are a Class A Commercial Drivers License with a 3-year clean driving record.
The logistics center will service three Walmart distribution centers in the northwest. They are in Hermiston, Oregon, Grandview, Washington and Puyallup, Washington.
The Port was able to secure the Walmart contract because of the long-term partnership with Mowat Construction.
Construction on the logistics center, which is only the second for Walmart in the nation, will begin in about 60 days.
