Lincoln County South Dakota Added To List With Coronavirus Cases

Mar 25, 2020 | ,

(KVHT) – Health officials say COVID-19 is now considered community-spread in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota, area after several new cases were confirmed there. The South Dakota Department of Health Wednesday confirmed eight new cases of COVID-19 in Minnehaha County as well as Lincoln County’s first confirmed case. Health officials say Minnehaha County’s CDC coronavirus spread rating jumped from “minimal” to “substantial community spread.” Lincoln County’s rating is currently “minimal to moderate.” The only other county in South Dakota with a “substantial” rating is Beadle County, which also has 13 cases. Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken told reporters that the City has done a remarkable job so far in its efforts to flatten the curve. He said with the latest confirmation of community spread it’s time for every single person and business owner to take the pandemic seriously. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem says the state will be in this crisis for the long haul. She said it could take weeks, or even months for things to get back to normal but she said together we can work to overcome the virus—calling COVID-19 our common enemy.
