Boil water advisory issued for Willard water district
A boil water advisory has been issued for customers of the Willard Water District.
Early Thursday, the water system lost pressure due to a break in the water main, which caused the water storage tank to drain. When distribution pipes and mains lose pressure, it increases the chance that untreated water and harmful microbes could enter the system.
The main is currently under repair and once that is complete, there will need to be two consecutive days of testing for bacteria in the water.
Residents able to still use tap water should bring water to a boil, boil rapidly for one minute, then cool before using.
Bottled water is being provided free of charge to residents of the Hamlet of Willard due to the break, and can be picked up at the Ovid Firehouse on Brown Street, in Ovid NY today between the hours of 8:30am and 12:00pm and again from 3:00pm until 7:00pm.
Any questions, call the Seneca County Health Department at 315-539-1945 or the Willard Water District at 607-869-9326.
