On Saturday August 10th, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call regarding a family lost on the Ozark Highlands Trail.   It was determined that call was actually in Franklin County.   The family from Hamburg was exploring waterfalls near Spirits Creek when they left the trail due to down trees across it.   They became disoriented and called for assistance.   While emergency responders were in route, it was learned that a good Samaritan had guided the family back to the Potato Knob Road and shuttled one of the adults back to their vehicle at Ragtown Road Trail Head.   The family had 7 adults and one three-year-old child which had planned for a 2-hour hike but ended up spending about 8 hours in the woods.   All were unharmed.
