Emergency Operations Center Opened In South Dakota

Mar 14, 2019 | ,

(KVHT) – The widespread flooding and blizzard conditions of Thursday had Governor Kristi Noem ordering the opening of the state Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Pierre. That to help coordinate the state’s response to the severe weather conditions, and she announced that the state is preparing an emergency declaration. Noem said that having the EOC open gives counties one place to go in state government with their questions or resource requests. The governor adds with the EOC, folks will have the needed state agencies at one site together to help better manage the response to the storm. Governor Noem expects several counties to approve emergency declarations once they have time following the immediate response to the storm. When that happens, Noem says the state will issue its own emergency declaration. In the meantime, the state government is staying in touch with all counties across South Dakota and working on finding the resources needed to respond effectively and keep South Dakotans safe.
