The newest Texas state senator has agreed to be the keynote speaker at this year’s annual Alpine
Chamber of Commerce Banquet and Awards Ceremony.
Pete Flores of Pleasanton was elected in a special election in September to the District 19 seat
vacated earlier when Senator Carlos Uresti was convicted of federal fraud charges.
He became the first Hispanic Republican in the Texas Senate and the first Republican to
represent Senate District 19 in more than 139 years.
Senator Flores spent most of his career as a Texas game warden, serving for 27 years and
achieving the rank of colonel.
He also was the first Hispanic Texas game warden colonel in history.
Flores is a graduate of the Governors Executive Development School from the L.B.J. School of
Government at the University of Texas.
He holds a Texas Master Peace Officer certificate and is a Fellow of the National Conservation
Leadership Institute.
The banquet and awards ceremony will be from 6 to 8 p.m. March 15 in the Espino Conference
Room in the Morgan Center at Sul Ross State University.
