Tennessee climbs to No. 3 after beating Gonzaga
Tennessee, on the strength of its defeat of No. 1 Gonzaga on Sunday, moved up four spots to No. 3 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll.
Gonzaga fell 76-73 to the Volunteers and dropped to No. 4 in the poll. The loss was the first of the season for Bulldogs (9-1).
Kansas, the preseason No. 1, returned to the top spot despite a narrow home victory against New Mexico State on Saturday. The Jayhawks captured 57 first-place votes, followed by No. 2 Duke with four.
Michigan rounded out the top 5, unchanged from last week.
At No. 3, this is the highest AP ranking for Tennessee since it was No. 1 during the 2007-08 season.
No. 15 Ohio State, No. 17 Villanova and No. 18 Mississippi State each moved up four spots to tie Tennessee for the biggest climb of the week.
The biggest plummet in the poll belonged to Kentucky, which dropped 10 spots to No. 19 with an overtime loss to Seton Hall.
This week’s Top 25 actually features 27 teams, with Syracuse and Indiana moving into the Top 25 and tying Kansas State at 25. The Hoosiers are ranked for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
